1. Geography

 

1.1 Location

Chiang Rai province is located in northern Thailand. Is located between the 19 degree to 20 degree Latitude over to 30 minutes north and 99 degrees to 100 degrees longitude over to 15 minutes east and  it is 785 kilometers away from the Bangkok.

1.2 Boundary

North: Myanmar & People’s Democratic Republic of Laos

East: People’s Democratic Republic of Laos

1.3 topography

ChiangRai has high mountains in the Northern continent (Continental North Highland) with high ground as a stray in the district Mae Suai and wiang Pa Pao of ChiangKhong, and mountains to a height of approximately 1,500-2,000 m above sea level. 1.5 Forests

Chiang Rai Province has an area of 11,678,369 square kilometres which is equivalent to 7,298,981 acres. In 1999 there was a forest area 2,365,967 acres which was 32.42% of  the total land area. The forest area is divided into 3 categories which is as follows:Doi Luang National Park :- It covers 731,250 acres  comprises of Amphoe Phan, Mae Suai and Wiang Pao in Chiang Rai Province. It also includes Amphoe Mae Chai and Amphoe Merng of Phayo Province as well as Amphoe Wang Nuea and Amphoe Ngao of Lampang Province.Khun Chyae National pPark  :- It covers 168,750 acres of land comprises of Amphoe Wiang Pa Pao in Chiang Rai Province.Phu Shang National Park :-  It covers 178,050 acres , comprises of Amphoe Thoeng in Chiang Rai Province, Amphoe Chiang Kham and sub Amphoe Phu Charng in Phyao Province.Mae Peern National Park :- It covers total of 227,312 acres of land comprises of Amphoe Merng, amphoe Phan and Amphoe Pa Dad in Chiang Rai Province as well as Amphoe Mae Chai, Amphoe Merng  and sub Amphoe Phhu Carn Yao in Phayo Province.Lan Narm Kok National Park :- It covers 467,185 acres of land comprises of Amphoe Merng, Amphoe Mae Chan, Amphoe Mae Lao and Amphoe Mae Suai in Chiang Rai Province.

1.5.2 Forest Park

The Forest Park is a natural resource which the government has designated as a relaxation spot for the public. It can also be developed as a tourist attraction in the Chiang Rai Province. In Chiang Rai Province, there are 10 forest parks, which are

1. The Tham Luang – Khun Nam Nang Non Forest Park has an area of 5,000 acres in the National Reserved Forest Park. It lies in the area of Doi Nang Norn Forest in Tambon Pong Pah, Amphoe Mae Sai of Chiang rai Province.

2. 3,500 acres  in the National Reserved Forest. It lies in the forest water shed covering the area of Mae Kham, Mae Sa long and on the left side of Mae Chan in Tambon Inner Mae Salong, Amphoe Mae Fah Luang of Chiang Rai Province.

3. in the National Reserved Huay Sak Forest. On the right is Mae Kok Forest, Doi Luang National Reserve Forest, Nam Yao Forest and Nam Khor Forest, all are in Amphoe Paya Meng Rai of Chiang Rai Province.

4. Mae Toh Waterfall Forest Park with area of 4,000 acres lies in the National Reserved Forest Mae Poon Noi, Mae Poon Luang Forest and Huay Pong Mane Forest in Amphur Wiang Pah Pao of Chiang Rai Province.

5. 2,500 acres lies Mae Ing National Reseve Forest on the right hand side and Mae Ngao Forest. It is in Amphoe Thoeng and Amphoe Wiang Kaen of Chiang Rai Province.

6. Mae Chan on the Left side. It lies in Amphoe Mae Fah Luang of Chiang Rai Province.

7. Wang Tharn Tong waterfall Forest Park,with an area of 8,000 acres lies in the National Reserved Forest. Sop Kok on the right hand side. It is in Amphoe Chiang Saen in Chiang Rai Province.
